All Bark, More Bite
“Lord” Jean Silva doesn’t need fluent English or impressive promo skills because when you have the touch of death inside the octagon, all it takes is one shot to record another highlight reel. And, for the most part, that’s been the story of the Fighting Nerds’ members’ pro MMA tenure. Knockouts, knockouts, and more knockouts, including five straight finishes that kick-started his UFC career.
That said, Silva was barking his way through the featherweight rankings before his first main event against the talented Diego Lopes, which halted the hype train and exposed a weakness in his game: a chin that can be tested.
With Yair Rodrigues pulling out of Noche UFC, Silva now faces a talented up-and-comer in Jose Delgado, who certainly has the power capable of emulating Lopes… just ask the five of his last seven opponents that’ve succumbed to such an outcome. The question remains: will the Brazilian continue his bounce-back obtained over Arnold Allen earlier this year, or will another Lopes-esque moment haunt his title aspirations in Arizona?
Talented But Unproven
While the US flag may represent his place of birth, Jose Delgado is the son of Mexican immigrants, and that bloodline will unquestionably receive the hype of the Mexican people who will be in attendance in Glendale. It may well be the perfect setting for the MMA Lab representative, who also hails from and trains in Arizona.
Unfortunately, location won’t be enough to win, especially when the opponent is a huge step-up in competition compared to the five UFC bouts he’s competed in to date. Delgado is a mean striker, and his grappling isn’t bad either, but at 28 years old with zero top-ranked experience, Saturday’s test might be a little too much, too soon.
Phoenix will have one of their own to celebrate at the Desert Diamond Arena, but the experience on paper, along with inconsistent performances, leaves us with more questions Delgado still needs to answer.

Moneyline
That same hunger and pure desire to fight from adversity that Lopes displayed in his knockout win over Silva isn’t something I believe Delgado can replicate. At least, not at this point in his career. Yes, we’ve witnessed legitimate promise, but we haven’t seen enough to believe that the current -500 money line on Silva is some sort of trap.
What concerns me most is the lack of head movement and defensive awareness Delgado has sometimes shown. There’s no denying the durability that presents a pro record with zero defeats inside the distance. Still, he hasn’t faced anyone close to owning the power of Silva, nor has he fought five rounds in a UFC main event with all hometown eyes awaiting his success.
We’ve watched Silva tear through opponents that aren’t experienced and ranked, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t expect any different now. The knockout prop is 1.67 odds, and when you consider that 67% of his victories versus non-top-10-ranked opponents ended by knockout, it feels like excellent value we’re getting on the board.
Over 1 ½ Rounds
The Silva KO prop is one approach, but I don’t envision said knockout ending in the early rounds. While the touch of death he possesses in the form of punching power is a worryingly potent skill to fade, the over 1 ½ rounds total isn’t so scary to approach.
Just two of Silva’s knockouts have arrived in the first round. He’s a wild man, for sure, but he isn’t always an overly eager one. Both men will realize the potential of 25 minutes here, which may produce a slow, steady start. Silva by knockout is live in any round, but for this fight to reach the second half of the second round is also viable for bettors who believe patience will be just as imperative for these two men as finishing the fight.
