UFC Vegas 124 Best Bets: Analysis & Predictions

UFC Vegas 124 returns to the Meta APEX this Saturday with a considerably heavier headline attraction than originally planned. Sean Brady’s withdrawal scrapped his meeting with Gabriel Bonfim, leaving Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker to take over. Walker has already announced his heavyweight arrival with a first-round knockout, but Cortes-Acosta presents a serious test of how far this latest career move can take him. That reshuffle sets the stage for our UFC Vegas 124 best bets.

There’s plenty worth studying before the big men clock in, too. Tatiana Suarez faces Virna Jandiroba in a meeting of elite strawweight grapplers, while plenty of new-named talent get another chance to prove their worth.

A reshuffled card gives us plenty to reassess, and I’m back working through the matchups and UFC odds to find the wagers worth taking. Let’s jump into my UFC Vegas 124 best bets, fight analysis, and fight night predictions at ibet.

UFC Vegas 124 Best Bets

Tatiana Suarez 1.46 (-217) vs. Virna Jandiroba 2.52 (+152)

Matchup Edge: Elite wrestling is usually stronger than elite jiu-jitsu.

Injury and illness halted the rise of the UFC’s most elite women’s wrestler, Tatiana Suarez, and while I literally took her almost a decade to challenge for the UFC strawweight strap, most of us knew she was destined to be a champion with such a high-level wrestling skill set.

Well, Weili Zhang had different plans. The Chinese GOAT of WMMA successfully defended her title at UFC 312, handing Suarez her first career defeat.

Naturally, the hype has cooled on Suarez. But let’s be honest, one career record blemish to Zhang is probably the most respected loss one could have. Not to mention, since that loss, she’s ran through Amanda Lemos and Loopy Godinez, en route to staking a claim at title contention once more.

This weekend she’ll face fellow former title contender Virna Jandiroba, and much like Suarez, Jandiroba faltered at the final hurdle in a recent title bout loss to Mackenzie Dern.

Suarez vs. Jandiroba UFC Betting Prediction

This fight will be a battle of elite wrestling versus elite jiu-jitsu, and it’s hard to ignore that the latter has been less convincing when scoring rounds. Yes, Jandiroba has been quite the wrestler herself, but those strong top positions don’t prove she can handle the division’s best wrestler from her back.

We have a situation where an elite wrestler learned BJJ later, and an elite jiu-jitsu artist learned wrestling later. I prefer the former, as Suarez shouldn’t have much trouble grounding Jandiroba to win at least two of the three rounds.

Suarez vs. Jandiroba Best Bet: Suarez to Win at 1.46 [-217]

Billy Elekana 3.40 (+240) vs. Lucas Fernando 1.27 (-370)

Matchup Edge: Lucas Fernando’s speed will stand out.

Former LFA champion Lucas Fernando put on a striking masterclass in his UFC debut earlier this year, proving his decision to vacate LFA gold for brighter pastures at the top might just provide us with more than hype.

The Brazilian kickboxer will meet fellow striker Billy Elekana this week, who has the UFC experience edge and a three-fight win streak. Despite his beautiful fighting style, the UFC isn’t giving Fernando an easy out, and this should be a striking battle until one man is slumped in the cage.

Elekana vs. Fernando UFC Betting Prediction

Looking back at Fernando’s third-round knockout in his UFC debut, he opted for the approach he often does, and that’s striking at range with precision and variety. Interestingly, Elekana also tends to strike at range, but a major speed difference will force him to close the distance or get pieced up by a blistering jab and leg kicks.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fernando’s cleaner striking forces Elekana to wrestle, or at least close the distance to clinch and attempt some cage work. However, this may be his downfall because the force of Fernando’s strikes up close has seen him collect eight first-round wins throughout his career.

With these factors in mind, I do think Elekana will fight a cautious game. He hasn’t displayed signs of poor fight IQ, and some well-timed clinch work will be required to slow Fernando down.

Do I think the underdog will win? No, I don’t, but from a betting perspective, I see some value in the over 1 ½ rounds because the dog has a solid chin and has never been knocked out, while Fernando can have a tendency to cruise through the motions and take his time without forcing a finish to put himself in danger.

Elekana vs. Fernando Best Bet: Over 1 ½ Rounds at 1.51 [-196]

Jose Delano 1.79 (-127) vs. Murtazali Magomedov 1.91 (-110)

Matchup Edge: Undefeated versus unfazed.

Delano arrived in the UFC with an LFA title on his résumé and a Contender Series win behind him, although April’s decision over Robert Ruchala felt more like an introduction than a proper showcase. It stretched his winning streak to five, with his last defeat coming against Gabriel Santos, hardly a name that should have anyone writing him off.

Magomedov took a rather different approach to making himself known. After earning his contract with a first-round knockout on Contender Series, he returned in June and tied Melsik Baghdasaryan into a twister, collecting a bonus and moving to 11-0 in the process. Apparently, winning a perfectly ordinary UFC debut wasn’t entertaining enough… the first Scottish twister in UFC history will do it!

Delano vs. Magomedov UFC Betting Prediction

This clash offers a fascinating matchup, because I suspect Delano won’t change his entertaining style despite the difficult opponent. His striking has an awkward, unreadable rhythm that could become a real problem once he settles into life inside the Octagon. Magomedov is a demanding opponent to find that comfort against, however, as I’m interested to see how Delano’s style holds up here.

The best aspect of this fight is the value. Oddsmakers are slightly leaning to Delano, but there’s a wrestling edge here that we have to give the Russian. On the feet, it could favor Delano, but Magomedov’s potential groundwork is what leads me to pick him.

Delano vs. Magomedov Best Bet: Magomedov to Win 1.91 [-110]
