Not really; the Japanese heavy-hitter has won 14 of his 22 professional MMA bouts with those hammer fists, and with a slower, less dynamic opponent lined up this weekend in China, he’s live to get the away crowd riled up.
Aori Qileng steps up with equally as dangerous hands and nine knockout victories of his own. However, the levels of competition he’s lost against can’t really be compared to Asakura, and that’s why a -500 ML on his Japanese foe is present.
Qileng vs. Asakura Prediction
It’s a shame that the under 2 ½ rounds on this fight has been bet into the -200 and above region because that’s the perfect wager in this spot. We have two strikers who’re willing to go out on their shield in a fight that’s unlikely to involve much grappling.
However, there’s a clear difference that positions Asakura as the man to beat despite the dangers that Qileng brings to the octagon.
Athleticism is the driving factor for me. Asakura will be stronger and faster, with the latter giving him an edge over the hometown favourite whose defence has been clattered by less damning opponents in the past. So, yes, Asakura by knockout is the pick, and when you see the tape of his knee strikes versus Qileng’s previous KO loss (yes, it was knees to the body), it’s a huge concern for anyone backing the dog here.

Bilal Hasan 1.11 (-909) vs. Nilson Rojas 5.55 (+455)
Matchup Edge: Two debutants with unbeaten records, what’s the worst that could happen?
Well, well, well, we should start by highlighting that not all undefeated pro-MMA records are made equal. The level of competition and the fashion in which said wins arrived are important, and that’s why Bilal Hasan is the biggest UFC Shanghai betting favourite over Nilson Rojas.
Reminiscent of Anthony Wint last weekend, UFC matchmakers are fast-tracking a Dana White Contender Series contract winner. Hasan slaughtered his DWCS opponent just two weeks ago as a reputation for being a brutal offensive striker is currently posting him up as a legitimate prospect for the 125 lb weight class.
Unfortunately, the same hype isn’t attached to Rojas, who, despite holding a 9-0 record, hasn’t really fought anyone of notoriety on the regional scene. Should we be looking at such a steep price when it’s an unproven prospect vs. an unproven prospect? Probably not, but there’s no denying Hasan is the significantly cleaner striker here, and that’ll most likely be the difference-maker come Saturday morning.
Hasan vs. Rojas Prediction
I know what you’re thinking… “There’s no way I’m paying -900 for a UFC newcomer after watching Bella Mir crash out as -1600 this week.” And yes, I understand your concerns. For that reason, we won’t be going anywhere near that moneyline, because who touches that sort of price anyway?
The pure striking talent, specifically that body work, and calm/confident approach of Hasan’s striking is enough to give me faith in his knockout ability over Rojas, who seems to have relied on early stoppages throughout his career.
In the deeper rounds, if the knockout doesn’t appear early, I do believe Hasan will shine and eventually find a finish before the judges can intervene.

Jack Jenkins 2.17 (+117) vs. Sean Woodson 1.61 (-164)
Matchup Edge: A 10-inch reach advantage for Woodson? Say no more.
The Ape Index has always been a supporter of 6’2” featherweight Sean Woodson, and when he returns to the cage this weekend versus Australia’s Jack Jenkins, it’ll be no different.
Ten whole inches is the reach advantage Woodson enters this bout with, and while size isn’t everything (that’s what she said), these are the types of figures we cannot ignore.
Jenkins vs. Woodson Prediction
In all fairness, I enjoy Jenkins’ style. He’s an aggressive boxer who’s become renowned for adding savage low kicks to his arsenal. The problem is, those attacks will need to be fired in the phone booth, as Woodson can pop that jab as soon as Jenkins tries to break the distance.
With 5 inches in height and 10 in reach, Woodson should have no issues in implementing a green zone offence. Not to mention, Woodson has also fought and defeated a higher level of competition while having only one UFC loss in the last five years, to a respected Dan Ige.
We’ll take the Woodson moneyline because at 1.61 odds, there isn’t much reason not to.
