Mateusz Gamrot is an elite wrestler, and that’s what made him undefeated in KSW and a former champ. It’s also a key factor in why he shot through the lightweight rankings to become a top-ranked UFC contender, with wins over the likes of Rafael Fiziev, Arman Tsarukyan, and, more recently, Ludovit Klein and Esteban Ribovics.
However, one-dimensional styles aren’t as strong as they once were. Modern fighters are extremely diverse in their skill sets, and the simple striker vs grappler isn’t as linear a path to victory. Don’t get me wrong, having Dan Hooker and Charles Oliveira as the recent two losses on your record isn’t a bad thing, but it has shown us that a former title contender in Gamrot is prone to failure when competing against well-rounded, top-of-the-division opponents.
The New Kid on the Block
From a UFC debut in 2025 to a Fight Night main event and top lightweight ranking position up for grabs in 2026, Australia’s Quillan Salkilld has continued to impress every time he steps in the octagon.
His 6’0” frame and 75-inch reach at 155 lbs have been utilized well, and a 5-0 UFC record in just over a year, behind four highlight-reel finishes, deserves to put him in the spotlight.
What’s most impressive about Salkilld is what we previously discussed; this kid will hunt a finish, and he doesn’t mind where it comes from. A slick BJJ game with composure, confidence, and power on the feet makes him a complete fighter, and with more than one way to win, he already owns an advantage over his weekend opposition.

Salkilld Moneyline Has Value
Watching Salkilld run through Beneil Dariush was surprising because we hadn’t seen his skills in action versus such a respectable name in the octagon. So, should he achieve the same thing on Saturday, don’t act surprised.
Gamrot’s wrestling is legit, but it’s also been untrustworthy of late as the 36-year-old has struggled to string together consistent wins. We’ve watched him look frail whenever an opponent can cause damage, and this might very well be the wrinkle in his pressure wrestling that sees him fall apart again, much like the Hooker fight.
To wrestle successfully, one must close the gap. A large, powerful lightweight who’s displayed flawless victories like Salkilld possesses all these threats and more because he can also counter-grapple.
The path to victory for Gamrot is slim; he’ll need to rely on his wrestling and control, and he’ll need to achieve this for five rounds. I struggle to envision this happening, as opposed to the well-rounded Salkild, who not only poses dangers on the feet but is also younger, much larger, and presents a grappling edge of his own.
With a generous set of UFC odds on Salkilld, we’ll keep this one simple: back the favorite to win.
Betting the Over/Under
With only three of his four five-round fights in the UFC actually going the distance, win or lose, Gamrot doesn’t really have that five-round experience edge despite his overall experience advantage. Couple that with the fact that Salkilld has finished 90% of his UFC opponents inside two rounds, and that he’s 9 years younger, we could very well see a stoppage in this bout.
With Gamrot posing an early submission threat but also a questionable chin and multiple losses by submission himself, a five-round war versus a legitimate finisher makes me nervous when thinking about betting the overs.
I know Gamrot has never been knocked out, but if you re-watch past fights, it becomes difficult to count how many times he’s been knocked down. Not to mention, his defensive submission grappling is a liability.
With all things considered, I believe the under 4 ½ rounds at 1.68 holds the value when it comes to over/unders.
