Following three straight knockouts since last July, Uros Medic receives his first main event this weekend, and better still, he’ll do it in his home nation of Serbia for UFC Belgrade. He’ll face a 14-fight veteran in Daniel Rodriguez, set for five rounds inside the Belgrade Arena.

Inside the Octagon: Medic vs. Rodriguez Prediction & Analysis
A Serbian Knockout Artist
When does a fighter actually earn the right to be labeled a ‘knockout artist’? Well, I think a 79- second KO of Geoff Neal last time out, a win that added to a 100% knockout rate in the UFC, is more than enough. With a 7-3 UFC record, yes, Uros Medic will KYTFO if you aren’t on your Ps and Qs.
Now, with three straight wins, all inside the first round, Medic has received his first main event spot. Not to mention, he receives this position in front of his home nation, Serbia, in the capital of Belgrade for a crowd that will be hyped for their first UFC card.
A Gritty Underdog Challenger Enters
One simply doesn’t receive a main event spot without there being a legitimate threat to face. In step Daniel Rodriguez, a 14-fight UFC veteran who’s faced a killer’s row during his time at welterweight. Not forgetting, D-Rod is also riding a 3-fight win streak, albeit one that’s less impressive with just one stoppage (versus Santiago Ponzinibbio).
Much like Medic, this will be Rodriguez’s first main event bout. However, at 39, how much does he have left in the dangerous 170lb weight class? Recent wins haven’t exactly been against the best of the best, and his previous crossovers into the top rankings haven’t gone to plan.
Medic vs. Rodriguez UFC Belgrade Betting Picks
Medic by Knockout
Do I envision Medic as a future title challenger? No. Do I believe the Serbian can flatline another aging fighter? Certainly.
The difference between Medic and Rodriguez’s recent opponents is speed, and we all know that speed kills. In a fight involving two strikers, we’re undoubtedly going to get a standup war, and the volume striking of Rodriguez isn’t the greatest style to prevent a legitimate finisher.
With that said, this is a five-round fight, and D-Rod will use his early smarts and gas to avoid danger. Sooner or later, though, whether it’s a counter-pop or just an onslaught of combinations, Medic will find the knockout.
UFC Belgrade Main Event Best Bet: Medic by KO at 1.43 [-233]
Over 1 ½ Rounds
Rodriguez likes to play it smart, and in previous successes we’ve seen a lot of patience and respectable defense. Due to the latter, expecting this fight to go beyond the first round, unlike Medic’s recent bouts, is a valid argument.
As previously mentioned, Rodriguez’s early cardio can avoid danger. He’s only been knocked out once during his career, and that’s thanks to sticking to defensive kickboxing basics.
I expect a knockout to surface in late round two or three, when the 39-year-old can no longer keep up with the speed of Medic, but for the early goings and particularly the over 1 ½ rounds, I like our chances.
UFC Belgrade Main Event Best Bet: Over 1.5 at 2.39 [+139]
